by Dennis Wiens, Senior Impact Catalyst at SAT-7 USA, Host of the Unconventional Ministry podcast
Dennis Wiens has been in cross-cultural work for most of his life. He grew up in Mali where his parents ministered to the indigenous people in that country. He came back to the United States to go to Bible school. He married his college sweetheart and returned to Mali to help train Christian leaders in that country. Later, he became interested in mass media which could reach further than the classroom’s four walls. He set up radio transmitters and receivers in 60 locations throughout Mali. These radios enabled the people to hear the Gospel and receive training in their own village. Later, Dennis was led to see the value of satellite TV as a means to reach even more people. In 2003 he joined the staff at SAT7 reaching into the Middle East and Northern Africa. On retirement, he continues his media reach to Christian leaders around the world to motivate to action with his podcast, “Unconventional Ministry News”. The following is one of his podcasts in which he is interviewing his wife, Cindy. Cindy found a new form of ministry in her retirement. Through volunteering with Thrive she helps other women in ministry throughout the world.
